Goals and Objectives

Goals
  • Trainee will demonstrate competence in the initial evaluation and management of patients with syncope

Objectives

Trainee will be able to:

  • List potentially life-threatening causes of syncope, including:

    • Anemia/hemorrhage

    • Aortic dissection

    • Arrhythmia

    • Ectopic pregnancy

    • Pulmonary embolism

    • Structural Heart Disease

    • Subarachnoid hemorrhage

  • Name high-risk groups in patients with syncope

    • Abnormal ECG

    • Coronary artery disease

    • Elderly

    • Structural heart disease

    • Family history of sudden death

  • Describe high-risk ECG findings in patients with syncope, including:

    • Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy

    • Brugada Syndrome

    • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

    • Ischemia

    • Long QT

    • Pericardial Effusion

    • Right heart strain

    • Tachy- and brady-arrhythmias

    • Wolff-Parkinson-White
